As a publicly funded organization, SickKids is committed to the principles of accountability and transparency as we manage our precious health-care resources. By ensuring that public money is spent appropriately, we enhance the strength of our organization and optimize our performance ensuring that we provide the highest quality of care to children and families in Ontario. Supply Chain Code of Ethics

All staff involved in Supply Chain activities shall adhere to the Hospital's Code of Conduct that encompasses the Supply Chain Code of Ethics.

All individuals with purchasing or other Supply Chain-related activities must act, and be seen to act, with integrity and professionalism. Honesty, care and due diligence must be integral to all Supply Chain activities within and between Broader Public Sector organizations, suppliers and other stakeholders. Respect must be demonstrated for each other and for the environment. Confidential information must be safeguarded. All participants must not engage in any activity that may create, or appear to create, a conflict of interest, such as accepting gifts or favours, providing preferential treatment, or publicly endorsing suppliers or products.

Supply Chain activities must be open and accountable. In particular, contracting and purchasing activities must be fair, transparent and conducted with a view to obtain the best value for public money. All participants must ensure that public sector resources are used in a responsible, efficient and effective manner.

All individuals involved in purchasing or other Supply Chain-related activities must comply with this code of ethics and the laws of Canada and Ontario. All individuals should continuously work to improve the Supply Chain policies and procedures to improve their Supply Chain knowledge and skill levels, and to share leading practices.

As part of our commitment to our community, all staff, physicians and volunteers at SickKids are bound to our Code of Conduct, which includes the Supply Chain Code of Ethics. Concerns can be reported by emailing supply.chain@sickkids.ca or anonymously using SickKids Whistleblowing System.

SickKids is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in all aspects of our operations. We firmly oppose the use of forced labour and child labour within our supply chain. We expect our suppliers and partners to adhere to these principles and comply with all applicable laws and regulations regarding labour practices, including the Fighting Against Forced labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act. We expect our suppliers to ensure that goods and services being provided to SickKids are not the result of, and in no way involve forced labour or child labour.

Our suppliers are encouraged to maintain policies and procedures designed to reduce the risk of forced labour or child labour occurring in goods and services being provided to SickKids on an ongoing basis.

Service and Ministry Accountability Agreements

Each year, SickKids enters into Service Accountability Agreements with Ontario Health. The agreements set out SickKids’ responsibilities for ongoing advancement of the health system. Ontario Health is required under the Local Health Services Integration Act, 2006, to negotiate a Service Accountability Agreement for each Health Service Provider they fund.

As a Health Service Provider that cares for patients across the spectrum, from emergency care to mental health services, SickKids is required to complete a Hospital Service Accountability Agreement (H-SAA) and a Multi-Sector Service Accountability Agreement. The H-SAA reflects that to the extent one party succeeds, the other party will also succeed as the parties share a common interest in supporting "...a health-care system that keeps people healthy, gets them good care when they are sick and will be there for our children and grandchildren."

Reporting concerns or misconduct

SickKids is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and transparency, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations.

Everyone who works at SickKids has a duty to: uphold this commitment; conduct activities according to the highest standards of legal, ethical, and professional behaviour; and report any conduct reasonably believed to violate the Code of Conduct, internal policies, and/or applicable laws. Patients or other parties we work with should also report concerns or complaints regarding unethical behavior, misconduct, or violations of policies and regulations.

There are many ways to report concerns or misconduct at SickKids, including speaking directly to your care provider or through one of the contact options listed below.

SickKids will not take any action against someone for reporting concerns or compliance violations in good faith and prohibits intimidation and retaliation against persons for making reports in good faith.

Patient and Family Relations

Concerns about your patient experience can be reported to Patient and Family Relations.

Research Integrity Office

Matters relating to the responsible conduct of research can be reported to the Research Integrity Office.

Supply Chain

Reports relating to supply chain can be reported to supply.chain@sickkids.ca.

The Whistleblowing System

Any matter can be reported to the hospital through the Whistleblowing System. This system allows for anonymous reporting. Once a report is submitted, our the Risk Management team will review and investigate the matter, ensuring confidentiality throughout the process.
